Computing’s popular ShipIt Day events (also known as hackathons) are held several times a year. These team-building, brainstorming marathons encourage programmers to explore new ideas that could benefit the Laboratory. Participants are given 24 hours to develop a project and 5 minutes to present it to their peers.
ShipIt Day was pioneered by Atlassian, a shipping company that marketed their idea to other companies by “sharing the spirit of innovation.”
LLNL puts its own twist on the proceedings. ShipIt Day provides a creative outlet to those who had an idea but lacked the time to fully conceptualize it. In true Lab form, Computing embraces a constant push forward and the urge to think creatively.
