As an administrative specialist, Nadia Mohamed is the ultimate problem solver for her team. She supports the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD), a group of more than 200 technicians and developers responsible for a slew of Lab needs, including collaboration, content management, digital, search, and directory services.
“I work with and support the best team at LLNL,” Nadia says. “I deeply appreciate and respect them. We get our work done, but we also have fun doing it.”
Nadia is one of about 40 administrative professionals in Computing, each with varying responsibilities supporting different divisions and teams. Like her “awesome” administrative teammates, Nadia is a trusted partner who keeps many facets of the business running smoothly.
“No two days are alike, which makes things fresh and challenging,” she says. “There’s something particularly special about being part of the interview and hiring process—making that first contact with a prospective employee, and then meeting them on day one as an employee.”
Given her affinity for meeting new staff and being helpful, it is no surprise that Nadia also volunteers as a Computing Ambassador—a sort of “buddy” resource for new employees. Ambassadors field questions about logistics, where things are located, how to join a networking group, where to go for lunch, and other topics that help a new hire acclimate to life at LLNL.
Nadia herself started at LLNL in 2018, after working for eight years in a nearby school district in various administrative roles. “There was a lot I liked about that work, but eventually I felt stuck and needed something new,” she says. “The Lab is a place you can grow, learn, and explore many different opportunities.”
Outside of work, Nadia enjoys all things Disney. She is part of a group that has annual passes, or “magic keys,” to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and says they have been known to go to the park just for the day if they find a good airline deal. “Yes, we fly down in the morning, hang out in the park all day, and fly back at night,” she says.
Closer to home and when time allows, Nadia is a crafter. Her favorite crafts are making shirts, sewing, and quilting.
One might say Nadia is the glue that holds things together, both at work and at home.
